The envoy of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has called on Kosovo and Serbia to implement the Brussels agreements and the Ohrid annex, as according to him this is the only way for European membership.
Speaking at the "EU meets the Balkans" forum in Sofia, Lajcak said that the agreement has been reached and cannot be undone. He said that an atmosphere suitable for normalization should be created.
"The best and the only answer to achieve this is for the region to believe that it is the moment for EU enlargement and that this is true. The moment our partners understand that progress in normalization leads to progress on their path to the EU, then we will see great progress", said Lajçak.
For the non-implementation of the agreement, Lajçak said that the reason is that the parties are not ready for normalization.
"With the Ohrid agreement, which is a guide towards normalization, we cannot ask what should be done and how to do it. But the truth is that I hoped that until today most of the points would be implemented. But very little has happened. Why so, since the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia is a very sensitive issue. I don't believe that the parties are ready for this, I don't believe that societies are ready for this", said Lajçak.
However, according to Lajçak, Albin Kurti and Aleksandar Vučič should be congratulated for making progress towards normalization, as it is a good thing for the citizens.
