The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, spoke at a press conference this evening, after the end of voting and most of the counting.
As the vote counting process began three hours ago in all municipalities, Abdixhiku stated that LDK won three municipalities in the first round and is in the race for potential victories in 12 others.
"We have won, we are leading in 3 municipalities and we are in the race in 12 municipalities. We declare victory in the first round in Istog, Lipjan and Junik. Ready to win in the first round in Peja as well."
In Pristina, after 12 years, LDK is the first party with a candidate for mayor and for the Municipal Assembly.
LDK also leads in the municipalities of Viti, Obiliq, and Dragash. LDK is in the runoff in Fushë Kosovë, Suhareka, Gjilan, and Rahovec .
"We congratulate the winner of the main race, Përparim Rama. After 12 years, in Prishtina for the first time, LDK is first for both mayor and municipal assembly," declared Abdixhiku, hailing the result of the party's candidate in the capital.
According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, based on 48.88 percent of votes counted in Pristina, LDK candidate Përparim Rama has won 34.21 percent, while he will face Hajrulla Çeku of the Vetëvendosje Movement in the runoff, who has received 33.21 percent.
Rama thanked citizens for their trust and support, pledging to conduct a dignified campaign towards the second round.
Results in municipalities where LDK declared victory:
Junik: The counting has ended and LDK candidate Ruzhdi Shehu has won with 47.91 percent of the votes.
Istog: With 76.67 percent of the votes counted, LDK's Ilir Ferati has secured a convincing result with 59.40 percent.
Lipjan: The results are expected to be officially confirmed, but LDK has declared victory in this municipality as well.
