The Ministry of Defense of Serbia has rejected as "completely disgusting and flagrant lies" the statements of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, who said on Monday that the attack on the Kosovo Police in the north of the country was carried out by the "Novi Sad Clan". led by the Serbian Minister of Defense, Milosh Vucevic.
In a quick response after Kurti's statements, the Serbian Ministry called on the international community to "immediately stop the inciting and dirty media campaign of the Prime Minister of the temporary institutions of self-government in Pristina" against Serbia and its officials.
On Monday, Kurti made new accusations against Serbia for the September 24 attack by a group of armed Serbs against the Kosovo Police in the village of Banjska, where Sergeant Afrim Bunjaku was killed.
"Two decades ago, the Clan of Zemun ruled in Serbia, but now the Clan of Novi Sad has taken its place. Criminals in war, criminals in peace; criminals in Serbia, criminals in Kosovo. The president of the state, Aleksandar Vucic, as a capo-di-tutti-capi, is there to prove that although crime dictates the state, in fact, it is the state that dictates crime," Kurti wrote on Facebook on Monday.
The existence of a "Clan of Novi Sad" is not known to the public in Serbia.
The Serbian Ministry described the Kosovar leader's statements as "aiming to destroy any possibility of easing tensions in our southern province."
"The Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces will remain committed to their constitutional and legal roles to maintain the security and peaceful life of all citizens of Serbia," the communique said.
Kosovo has accused Serbia of trying to "annex the entire north of Kosovo", which Serbia has denied, although the responsibility for the attack was claimed by Millan Radoicic, the then vice-president of Lista Serbe, the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo which has the support of Belgrade.
Kosovo and Serbia have launched parallel investigations into the events in Banjska, while the European Union has called on Belgrade to cooperate fully on this issue.
Kurti emphasized that "the terrorist group on the run led by Millan Radoicic is staying in Rashka. The infamous Serbian MUP gave them white and black Shkoda Oktavia type cars with registration plates BG and... NS."
He also mentioned a number of nicknames of people who are suspected of being connected to "criminal activities" in the north of Kosovo and who are fans of Crvena Zvezda.
Some of the nicknames are "Mami", "Llune" and "Nemac", namely Millun Millenkovic, Nenad Orllovic and Vlladimir Radivojevic.
Millun Millenkovic - Llune has been in custody since June 13 and has been elected as the leader of the Civil Defense, which Kosovo has declared a terrorist organization.
Orllovic was arrested on June 23 for an attack on members of the NATO mission in Kosovo (KFOR) in the municipality of Zveçan in late May, when local Serbs opposed the arrival of Albanian leaders in power.
Millenkovic and Orllovic are accused of three criminal acts: terrorism, violent change of the constitutional order of Kosovo and endangering a person under international protection.
Meanwhile, on September 29, the Kosovo Police raided the house of Vladimir Radivojevic in Zveçan, who is known by the nickname "Mami".
Also, it is known that he is one of the leaders of the fans of the football club Crvena Zvezda. That day, the Kosovo authorities confiscated the property of Millan Radoicic in the north of Kosovo, as part of a search operation related to the attack on the Kosovo police in Banjska.
Western countries strongly condemned the attack in Banjska against the Kosovo Police and demanded an investigation. Meanwhile, the EU's special envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, said that the events in Banjska have changed the situation, but that dialogue for the normalization of relations "has no alternative".
Lajcak, after the meeting of the Big Five with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, said that the events of September 24 "clearly showed that the extension and normalization [of relations between Kosovo and Serbia] are now more urgent than ever before"./REL
