Number 2 of the Kosovo government: the EU will lift the punitive measures within
Besnik Bislimi

Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi has said that he expects the European Union to lift the punitive measures against Kosovo before the September 14 meeting between the Prime Minister of Kosovo and the Serbian President.

Speaking about the dialogue, Bislimi emphasized that in this process, Serbia "has not only redirected the Brussels dialogue from normalization to crisis management, but has also managed to promote the EU from a facilitator to a negotiator".

"The EU's statement of June 3, together with the measures put in place afterwards, confirm this. However, in less than two weeks there will be a new high-level meeting and it is expected that the EU will ensure the equality of the parties in the dialogue by removing the punitive measures before this meeting", he said.

Bislimi in an interview for the Serbian media "Danas" stated that the full implementation of the bilateral agreement leads to a more stable situation.

"We understand that formal recognition is not there and this was a big concession by Kosovo. It is important that we build lasting relationships as equal members of the international community. Such major decisions must be taken by courageous leaders and I hope that the leadership of Serbia will find the strength to fully implement the Basic Agreement", he said.

Bislimi has stated that the agreement for the normalization of relations emphasizes the protection of minorities, for which he added that Kosovo insists on the protection of Albanians just as Serbia does for the Serbs in Kosovo.

"We will insist on protecting the Albanian minority in Serbia with the same energy as the other side is doing for the Serbian community in Kosovo, and I believe it would be a paradox to behave otherwise. This topic is inevitable, if both parties, Kosovo and Serbia, aim to reach the Comprehensive Agreement for the complete normalization of relations".

He said that the Albanians in the Presheva Valley are discriminated against and enjoy very few rights compared to the Serbs in Kosovo. Bislimi has emphasized that an example of this discrimination in Serbia is the passivation of addresses, while adding that Kosovo is unilaterally implementing the agreement on the recognition of diplomas, while Serbia is implementing the delicensing of already recognized diplomas.
