The American expert Edward Joseph believes that the warning of the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, can be avoided in a simple way: official Kiev recognizes the independence of Kosovo.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday issued a rather worrying warning, saying that Russia could create "new crises" in the Balkans and Moldova in order, he said, to divert the world's attention from the war in Ukraine.
His warning can be defined as disturbing since he said that there is information that "Russia has a long-term plan to turn the Balkans into the Middle East."
And according to the American professor, it is precisely Zelensky who has the power to stop the Russian agenda in the Balkans by recognizing Kosovo's citizenship.
"You won't even lose ammunition from Serbia. Ukraine's recognition of Kosovo will catalyze Serbia's decisive move towards the West", he wrote on the social platform, X.
Zelensky's warnings, that Russia has plans for new crises in the Balkans, are not only claims, but are turning out to be concrete concerns in the European Union as well.
Zelensky's statement was also confirmed by the European Union, namely by the spokesperson of the Union, Peter Stano.
Stano, at a press conference on Friday, said that the EU has long noticed Russia's tendency to exert its malign influence in the Western Balkans region.
"For a long time we have said that Russia is making efforts to exert malignant influence in the Western Balkans region as well. So, yes, this is a concern that we share, and this is not a new concern, but a concern that has been with us for a while," Stano said.
