The Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo has carried out actions in several locations in the northern municipalities of Kosovo, where nine Customs officials and a policeman have been arrested.
The news was confirmed by the deputy commander of the Kosovo Police, Veton Elshani.
The raid by the police is being carried out at the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Kosovo, and it concerns some customs officials who are suspected of misuse of official duties.
According to the spokesman of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Ekrem Lutfiu, the action is taking place in the municipalities in the north of Kosovo inhabited by a majority of Serbs.
"The Special Prosecutor's Office is developing an action for criminal offenses against corruption, taking bribes and abuse of office," he told Radio Free Europe.
This is not the first time that the authorities carry out an action in the Kosovo Customs to fight criminal offenses related to taking bribes and misuse of official duties.
In March 2022, dozens of police and customs officers were arrested on suspicion of accepting bribes and abuse of office. The action was carried out in Gjakovë and Prizren and the arrested officials were suspected of participating in hundreds of bribe-taking activities at the border points of Qafë Prushi and Qafë Morinë, which connect Kosovo and Albania.
Otherwise, in the north of Kosovo - inhabited by a majority of Serbs - the authorities in recent years have closed several illegal routes that were used to smuggle goods from Serbia.
