American professor Edward P. Joseph has stated that the Government of Kosovo should accept the American gas project and cooperate closely with the United States of America in the field of energy.
According to him, such a project would directly impact the increase in Kosovo's energy security and the strengthening of relations with the US.
“Yes. The Kosovo government should accept it and should work with the United States Embassy and the US government officials and should definitely accept this. And there is no reason not to do this because it has to do with energy security for Kosovo. So, yes, you have coal, but coal is very damaging and has many negative factors. For coal is not something that takes Kosovo into the future. And by bringing natural gas through a pipeline from North Macedonia, you are not building a dependency, but you are building a broader umbrella of energy security for Kosovo. And I really don’t understand why the Kosovo government doesn’t do this and this would be a way to build the relationship with this Trump administration ,” he said.
Joseph also added that non-cooperation in this project could bring consequences for the citizens of Kosovo, emphasizing reduced energy security and greater distancing from the United States.
“I am not a government official, so I do not know what the consequences are. But I will tell you what the consequences will be for every citizen of Kosovo. I can say this. The consequences for every citizen of Kosovo for not cooperating with the United States on this LNG project will be reduced energy security and increased distance from the United States. Lower energy security, increased distance from the United States. I can say this ,” he added.
