The Kosovo Police held an extraordinary conference this afternoon regarding the suspicions of the kidnapping of three police officers by the Serbian forces in the territory of Kosovo.
Baki Kelani, spokesperson for the Police, has stated that Serbian forces have used kidnappings in the past as a method to protect criminals.
" Such a kidnapping by the Serbian forces who want to keep Kosovo destabilized also happened in 2011 where two officials were kidnapped. Such classic kidnappings are being used by Serbian forces to protect criminals wanted by the KP ," he said.
Kelani gave details of how the case happened, stressing that the police were performing their duties and that they were inside the territory of Kosovo.
" Today at noon, in the depth of the territory of Kosovo in the border area in the north, it is suspected that the special units of Serbia in an organized form have kidnapped three border patrol officers. A classic kidnapping by Serbian forces has taken place. The Kosovo Police emphasizes that the border patrol police unit has been on official duty at a static point in the place called Bare, in the territory of Kosovo. The same have been performing official duties to prevent illegal actions, criminal groups from using illegal roads, to prevent goods and suspicions of weapons in that part , he said.
In the meantime, the police has also shown a map of the place where the policemen are suspected to have been kidnapped. Kelani added that they have notified the international mechanisms, asking them to put pressure on Serbia to release the policemen.
" Initially, the police unit, consisting of 3 officers, saw that suspicious persons, masked and armed, were moving in that area, and that they were suspected to have been forces of the special units of Serbia. Immediately the police units with other units went to assist in that location, where upon reaching they noticed only the official vehicle and not the officials. KP, in addition to sending units, has notified all local and international mechanisms, including KFOR, to put pressure on them to be released as soon as possible. Our policemen are patrolling policemen, they are peacekeepers, they are law enforcement officers, they are in the service of the country, they are family members, parents and they are waiting for the children to return home", he concluded .
