Stoltenberg waits for Osmani and gives a firm ultimatum: Do not take any steps

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, met today at the NATO headquarters with the Secretary General of the alliance, Jens Stoltenberg, where the core of the meeting was the situation in the North.

In a joint conference for the media, the head of NATO stated that for the North-Atlantic alliance it is essential to avoid further escalation in the north of Kosovo.

He also condemned the violence perpetrated by the Serbs in the north against members of the NATO mission in Kosovo, calling their actions unacceptable. He said that the stability of the region depends on all parties, as he added that NATO is fully committed to maintaining peace and stability in the north.

"KIs the presence of KFOR important in Kosovo? Our KFOR troops have been attacked this year leaving 93 of them injured, some seriously, this is completely unacceptable, the stability of the region and the safety of KFOR troops depends on all parties respecting existing oaths . NATO considers this to be of the highest importance and demands that these be respected. In accordance with Pristina's commitments from 2013, any kind of KSF landing requires the concurrence of KFOR and we expect timely and meaningful consultations on any kind of landing that may affect security. For the recent situation in the north of Kosovo, NATO has landed hundreds of troops and we continue to monitor the situation to fulfill our UN mandate, to maintain an orderly environment and freedom of movement for all communities in Kosovo.Stoltenberg said.

Among other things, the head of NATO emphasized the Kurti-Vucic meeting in Brussels next week, he declared that this meeting "is an opportunity for Kosovo to demonstrate that it is a responsible party that acts constructively for the benefit of Euro-Atlantic security ". He encouraged Kosovo and Serbia to stick to their commitments.

" We welcome Pristina's recent steps to reduce tensions, including reducing the number of forces and plans for elections. It is essential to avoid any further escalation. We encourage both sides to act according to their commitments ", concluded Stoltenberg.

Meanwhile, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, during her speech at a joint press conference at the NATO headquarters, spoke about the September 14 meeting that will take place in Brussels between the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, and the Serbian President. Aleksander Vucic.

President Osmani said that there is a long list of agreements that Serbia has not implemented.

She further said that Kosovo's hopes are that it will now have an equal approach from the European Union, since such an approach is a prerequisite for the success of the dialogue.

" The next meeting will take place on September 14. Unfortunately, the list of agreements not implemented by Serbia is very long. Our hopes are now that there will be an equal approach. An equal approach from the EU is a prerequisite for the success of the process. It has been a long time since we have seen this balance, therefore I call on the allies to ensure this balance, if we want to see stable results that contribute to the stability of the region ", President Osmani said.

President Osmani will have other meetings at the NATO headquarters, including with the head of the NATO military committee, Admiral Rob Bauer. The head of state will also meet with the head of the United States mission to NATO, Julianne Smith, and with representatives of other member states of the Western military alliance.
