The envoy of the European Union for the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, has announced that he will travel to the United States of America to discuss the developments and tensions in the north of Kosovo.
After the meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO, Mircea Geoana, Lajcak announced that they have agreed on immediate steps to escalate the situation between Kosovo and Serbia.
Through a post on the "Facebook" social network, Lajcak said that the solution to the situation in the north will come from Washington, implying that EU pressures are not having an effect on the parties.
Greetings from this year's edition of the Prespa Forum Dialogue in North Macedonia. Despite the rainy weather, the day was filled with engaging discussions together with valued partners, colleagues and friends, making it a rewarding experience. Of course, the recent developments in the region, in particular the high tensions between Kosovo and Serbia and the situation in the north of Kosovo, were on everyone's radar.
Earlier this week, I briefed my colleagues in Brussels on my recent joint visit to the region, the current situation and the way forward. During my visit to the NATO headquarters, I also met with NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana to discuss the situation in the north of Kosovo. We both agreed that immediate steps should be taken to de-escalate. I further emphasized this point when I addressed the NATO and EU ambassadors.
I will go to Washington DC at the invitation of my American partners. We will have intensive discussions about the way forward and immediate next steps.
