Political analysts have called on the government of Kosovo to accept the demands of international allies for the de-escalation of the situation in the north. According to them, the continuation of tensions in the north and the worsening of international relations are not in favor of Kosovo.
The political analyst, Arton Demhasaj told KosovaPress that the mayors of the four municipalities in the north should exercise their mandate in alternative facilities and then set a date for the new elections in North Mitrovica, Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposavic, these are the demands of the community as well. international.
He emphasizes that Prime Minister Kurti's five-point proposal and focusing only on the rule of law cannot produce a solution. Another political analyst, Albinot Maloku, is also seeing a lack of vision to move towards de-escalation of the situation in the north.
However, the analyst said that Prime Minister Kurti has often accepted international demands at the last moment when he was not expected to change.
The tensions in the north of Kosovo started on May 26, when the elected mayors in Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposaviq went to the municipal facilities, assisted by the Kosovo Police. The situation escalated on May 29, when criminal groups attacked the Kosovo Police and KFOR soldiers, where about thirty of them were injured.
Meanwhile, on June 14, three Kosovo border policemen were kidnapped by Serbian forces, inside the country's territory. On Friday, the High Court in Kralevë ordered them to be detained for 30 days.
The international community has addressed three requests to Prime Minister Kurti, related to the situation in the north: the escalation of the situation there, the holding of new elections and the return to the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, mediated by the European Union. Meanwhile, Kurti presented five points for the situation in the north, where the focus according to him should be the rule of law in the four northern municipalities.
