The European Police Agency (EUROPOL) has informed that the person who was arrested on August 4 in Kosovo for the production of hundreds of thousands of fake coins worth two euros "has been identified as an employee of the Ministry of Interior in North Macedonia".

A day ago, the authorities in Kosovo said that the arrestee has been detained for 48 hours.

"His arrest is the culmination of a months-long operation between Kosovo and Macedonian authorities with the support of EUROPOL and Eurojust [European Union Agency for Cooperation in Criminal Justice]," said EUROPOL's announcement on August 6.

The EU agency said that the 34-year-old arrested in Pristina is suspected of counterfeiting hundreds of thousands of 2-euro coins in the last two years.

Meanwhile, in North Macedonia it has been said that controls were carried out in three locations and machines for the production of counterfeit money with 2 euro denominations, money templates and other materials for the production of counterfeit coins, including all the raw materials, were seized. of their production.

Last year, the Kosovo Police initiated hundreds of cases for the criminal offense of "counterfeiting money", while it was estimated that hundreds of thousands of counterfeit euros were circulating in the market.
