Vjosa Osmani against Kurti: The opening of the Ibri Bridge, only after

The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has opposed Albin Kurti. In an interview for Radio Free Europe, she said that the opening of the Ibri bridge in Mitrovica should be based on a plan with international partners.

"We must, as the implementation plan of the agreement reached in August 2016 foresees, have joint security assessments with our partners, and after those assessments and the joint plan, it will then determine the date," he declared. President Osmani.

The reopening of the bridge for vehicular traffic, which divides Mitrovica in the south with an Albanian majority and in the north with a Serbian majority, has been opposed by the international community and local Serbs. Italian KFOR soldiers are located on the bridge over the Iber River, while members of the Kosovo Police are also located near it.

The QUINT countries, the USA, Britain, France, Germany and Italy, have called Albin Kurti's Government's intention to reopen at this time unilateral. The European Union has called for the bridge issue to be discussed in dialogue with Serbia.

She said that "the bridge over the river Ibër must be opened and its opening has been delayed for eight years in a row".

"Each time when Kosovo, in its history, has cooperated with partners, every time it has been successful", emphasized Osmani.

She said that regarding this matter she spoke with the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, a month ago.

According to Osman, reopening the topic of the bridge in Brussels with the president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, is dangerous.

"This matter has ended as far as the dialogue with Serbia is concerned, but there must be coordination with our international partners, in particular with NATO."

The President emphasized that the coordination within Kosovo with the allies would also affect the international level, and would increase confidence and enthusiasm to help Kosovo also in terms of new recognitions and membership in international organizations.

Regarding the actions of the Government of Kosovo in the north, Osmani said that, during the last two years, they are in accordance with the Constitution of Kosovo, but he emphasized that sometimes there is a need for more space to discuss with the citizens, to understand the purpose.

Osmani assessed what she called illegal and criminal interventions in the north of Kosovo by Vuçiqi as terrible for the citizens in the north. The president declared that there can be no integration of Serbian citizens in the north, while they, according to her, are under pressure from criminal gangs.

As for sending the European Union's draft statute for the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority for consideration by the Constitutional Court, Osmani said that there is no hesitation, but that it exists in the unilateral implementation of the Basic Agreement, where, according to her, Serbia has renege on the deal.

Osmani said that he is discussing with international allies to offer Kosovo security guarantees and membership in international organizations if Kosovo is required to implement the Ohrid Agreement.

Regarding cooperation with the Government of Kosovo, Osmani said that he cooperates with it on matters of national interest, for the interest of the citizens.
