The vote against the report for Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe by the representative of Montenegro in the Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council for politics and democracy caused strong reactions among the opposition in Montenegro.
"The vote of the head of the Montenegrin delegation, Maja Vukičević, who is a representative of the pro-Russian and pro-Serbian party, against the membership of Kosovo in the Council of Europe can be defended with the thesis that the action of each deputy is independent, but cannot is protected by the fact that such a vote will damage the reputation and foreign policy of Montenegro in front of the international community", said the MP of the opposition Social Democratic Party, Milosh Djurickovic.
Djurickovic said that such an attitude causes concern because it comes from MP Vukicevic, who represents the parliamentary majority party and, according to warnings, will soon be part of the government.
The opposition MP Djurickovic pointed out that the vote against MP Vukicevic, as well as the actions of the speaker of the parliament, Andrija Mandic, send the message that Montenegro is not a reliable partner and that Montenegro's foreign policy is no longer in compliance with EU foreign policy.
Even the Democratic Party of Socialists of former president Milo Gjikanovic has reacted to the vote against the Montenegrin deputy in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
The representative of this party, Milosh Nikolic, said on the X platform that the Foreign Ministry should clarify its position.
"Does the government support these views and does Montenegro have a united foreign policy?", his post said.
According to Nikolić, this proves that the pro-Serbian and pro-Russian parties are ideologues of the new government and that this gesture will damage relations in the region.
