Greece has taken half of the spots on the list of the 10 best beaches in Europe, according to a new ranking by the organization Best European Destinations, once again confirming its reputation as one of the continent's best summer destinations.
This year's list includes five Greek beaches, with Voutoumi in Antipaxos, Fteri in Kefalonia, Elafonisi in Crete, Rovinja in Corfu and Paleokastritsa in Corfu, all ranked among the best coasts in Europe.
The ranking was based on a number of criteria, such as water quality, accessibility, available activities, natural beauty, family-friendliness and environmental protection. The research took into account both traveler experiences and the organization's editors' ratings.
Praia de Monte Clérigo in Portugal's Algarve region took first place. The sandy beach is located within the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park and is a popular destination for those who love nature walks and water sports.
