Prince Harry has spoken out about the pain he experienced after the loss of his mother, Princess Diana, during an emotional speech in Australia at a mental health event.
The Duke of Sussex was the keynote speaker at the InterEdge Summit in Melbourne, where he shared personal experiences on the grief and pressure of public life.
"In my experience, loss is disorienting at any age. Grief doesn't go away because we ignore it. Experiencing it as a child, while you're in a goldfish bowl under constant supervision, yes, that will have its challenges. And unintentionally, it can break you," Prince Harry said.
Harry added: "There have been many times when I have felt overwhelmed. Times when I have felt lost, betrayed or completely helpless."
He also spoke about the moments after his mother's death: "I didn't want this job, I didn't want this role... I didn't like the direction my life was taking. It killed my mother, and for years I avoided everything."
He later said his thinking changed: "How would someone else use this platform to make a difference in the world? And what would my mother want me to do?"
Harry also stressed the importance of mental health: "For me, one of the biggest changes has been realizing that asking for help is not a weakness, but a strength."
