A 52-year-old woman from Rotterdam has shared a shocking story of abuse, claiming she was forced by her ex-partner to cover her body with hundreds of tattoos of his name, initials and possessive phrases.
According to her account, the incident occurred during the period 2020–2021, when she was in a relationship with the suspect, and the tattoos were repeatedly made on her face and various parts of her body.
The woman, identified as Joke, says around 90% of her body has been covered in black ink, while claiming the process was painful and controlled by her partner, who used a tattoo machine purchased online.
The ex-partner has denied the allegations, stating that everything was done with her consent during the relationship. So far, authorities have not filed charges, considering it difficult to prove a lack of consent.
In an attempt to change her life, Joke is undergoing a long and expensive process of laser tattoo removal, with the help of the Dutch organization Stichting Spijt van Tattoo.
According to representatives of the organization, her case is also related to severe psychological consequences and addiction developed during the relationship, making the recovery process even more difficult.
The fundraising campaign for her treatment has exceeded its goal, while she herself hopes to soon be able to completely remove her tattoos and regain her life.
She says she wants her story to serve as a message to women who have experienced violence or control in relationships: recovery is possible even after severe trauma.
