The controversy surrounding Britney Spears' marriage and lifestyle continues. Following her split from husband Sam Asghari, she now believes he was a 'spy' and 'undercover' working with her father Jamie, providing him with information that would help keep her under his 13-year-old guardianship.
Sam filed for divorce from Britney earlier this month after just 13 months of marriage, however, a source close to the pop star has now claimed that she began to have serious doubts about the romance's legitimacy long before they officially split.
"Britney has reason to believe that Sam was secretly working with her father Jamie from the beginning of their relationship. Sam would give Jamie information that would help her keep him in her custody. In return, Sam had access to her and her money.
Britney now feels like Sam was cheating all along,' the source explained to the Daily Mail. On February 1, 2008, Spears was involuntarily placed under guardianship by her father, Jamie Spears, and attorney Andrew M. Wallet after the singer exhibited several months of erratic behavior in public.
Under the terms of the conservatorship, she was not allowed to marry or manage her own life. In addition to the shocking allegations of abuse by her father, she also revealed that court-ordered custody prevented her from marrying Sam at the time. She also claimed that she was forced to use an IUD device to prevent pregnancy.
A judge ended Spears' custody in November 2021. Sam filed for divorce on August 16, citing "irreconcilable differences." Before his appearance, TMZ reported that Sam believed Britney had cheated on him. The media also reported that Britney physically assaulted Sam.
He reportedly told friends that the pop princess raped him during their seven years together, according to TMZ, which further claimed the couple were involved in multiple fights in which security was forced to intervene.
