A rare albino buffalo in Bangladesh, known for its wavy blond hair and nicknamed "Donald Trump" on social media, was saved from slaughter during Eid al-Adha thanks to a last-minute government intervention.
The 700-kilogram buffalo had been sold and was scheduled to be slaughtered along with other animals, but the fame it gained on social media through viral videos led authorities to intervene to save it.
Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed ordered that the buffalo not be slaughtered, the buyer be financially compensated, and the animal be transferred to the Dhaka Zoo.
"At the last moment, the decision was made not to sacrifice the buffalo due to safety concerns and extremely high public interest," a ministry official stated.
What started as a regular animal sale took on unexpected proportions after videos of the "Donald Trump" buffalo went viral and hundreds of people started going to see it up close, commenting on its resemblance to US President Donald Trump.
