A diary believed to have been written by Adolf Hitler could be considered a possible historical discovery.
The diary's contents reveal that the Nazi leader had a secret love affair with a prominent German Hollywood star, whom the Nazis called a traitor.
Passages found in the book recount the mass murder by confessing his adoration for the German actress, as it is written: "I think I fell in love with her," while the dictator asked the secret service to contact the woman.
A supposedly groundbreaking diary found in an attic, consisting of 113 handwritten pages, has sold for around £26,000. While the book has not yet been proven to have been written by the Nazi leader, experts have confirmed that the document dates back to that period.
The book was initially offered to Olaf Haubold, 74, who could not afford the seller's asking price. The 74-year-old then brokered a deal with a collector he knew, who ultimately paid around £26,000 (€30,000).
Olaf Haubold said: “In 2008, an elderly gentleman came to my office and offered me documents from Adolf Hitler’s estate.
"At first it seemed suspicious to me, but I asked him to show me a sample. Then he came with a notebook and some documents that initially seemed authentic. Since I have no expertise in this field, I sought help from historians and we concluded that there was a possibility of its authenticity."
At first, Olaf explained that he was suspicious because of the seller's vague explanation for finding the book in an attic.
"The gentleman who offered the collection didn't want to say anything about its origin. The explanation of 'found in the attic' was very unclear to us," the 74-year-old says.
Olaf noted that the documents found in the diary reinforced the diary's potential credibility, as he said: "some documents bear the seals of the former GDR's Ministry of State Security, otherwise known as the Stasi. It is possible that it came from somewhere."
The magazine's records revealed an alleged admiration between Hitler and German actress Marlene Dietrich, whom the Nazis considered a traitor because she renounced German citizenship due to her anti-Nazi political views.
Regarding Hitler's alleged love for the actress, the notebook reads: "I must try to bring her back to Germany. I have been sent all of Dietrich's new films. I think I have fallen in love with her."
"Eva has no chance against Dietrich. But I won't tell. The woman must come to Germany, even if it has to be done by force. I will set the intelligence service in motion. Dietrich is staying with the Americans now. I will write him another letter. The best thing would be to offer him money. Women would do anything for money, you can see that in Eva."
"I'm going to use Eve as a test subject and study her behavior. I'm going to make Dietrich an offer of money and see if she takes the bait."
"So let's get to work. Because I am the Führer. The secret service says it won't be that easy to catch Dietrich. Anyway, what is easy! I told them to try. I want to see results. They get paid for that, and not bad for that," the diary states.
