When Kayleen saw herself in a photograph one day, she realized she definitely needed to lose weight, as she no longer recognized the person she was seeing.
The seller, who is from South Australia, was looking at her wedding photos when she decided to make the important change.
"On my first wedding anniversary, I was looking at pictures and I felt really disgusted with myself. I asked myself why my husband would want to marry me. We were discussing starting a family and I knew this wasn't the way I wanted to do it. I wanted to be a good role model for our future children. It was time to change," Kayleen told the Daily Mail.
Her 'moment of truth' came a few months after she left her extremely stressful job, in early 2020. It was a decision that finally gave her the determination to change her life.
"I was in a very demanding job, which led me to a state of depression. The job was causing me stress. After I left there, I had time to focus on myself. My main focus was to regain my happiness," she said.
Amazingly, Kayleen managed to lose 51 kilograms in just 54 weeks. All this completely naturally, without even going to the gym a single day.
"I've always been overweight, ever since I was a child, I've always been the 'fat kid.' We ate a lot of vegetables, but also fast food and the amount was very large," she recalls, adding that as she grew up, she never focused on doing anything for herself.
"I was always taking care of others. I was very tired all the time and didn't think about eating healthy. I bought lunch almost every day at work. I also consumed chocolate, chips, energy drinks and cold coffees," Kayleen revealed.
She added that she has tried many diets, but nothing has worked for her:
"I've had a hard time knowing what to eat healthily. I've tried to lose weight just for the way I look. But last time I decided I had to do it for my health."
Kayleen discovered the CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet. She had noticed a man lose 100 kilograms on the scientifically formulated weight loss program during a television segment.
"My brother had tried it too and I knew it worked," she said, who then added:
"After talking to my brother about how it worked, it seemed like something that would be effective and sustainable for me. My mother has since gotten on the program and lost weight too – it's really a family affair."
Developed by scientists at Australia's national science agency, the diet focuses on a higher-protein meal plan designed to help you lose weight by reducing food cravings and making you feel fuller for longer.
"I learned what to eat for a balanced diet. Instead of a 'quick fix,' I was gaining knowledge to live healthier," she said, adding:
"I also lost weight quickly once I started, which gave me a boost of motivation to keep going and be consistent."
After 54 weeks, Kayleen lost more than 50 kg.
"I really committed to the changes I needed to make and I think that made a big difference," she said.
"Exercise wasn't a big part of my weight loss journey. I really just focused on what I ate. These days, I go for walks every now and then, but it's my little one that really keeps me active. My relationship with food is now very balanced and organized."
"I plan my meals for the week, and if I go out for lunch or dinner, I only think about what I can eat so I can adjust the rest of my day accordingly," she revealed.
