'The Simpsons' may have predicted another real-life event, this time about the lost submarine that travels to the depths of the ocean to see the wreck of the Titanic. The Titan submarine went missing on Sunday with five passengers on board and rescue teams from around the world are desperately trying to save them.
Their oxygen is likely to run out today (Thursday). Run by OceanGate Expeditions, the group was traveling to see the wreck of the RMS Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean and they were about 900 miles east of Cape Cod. Some Simpsons fans have recalled a similarly terrifying story from the 17th season of the Fox cartoon, which aired in 2006. In the 10th episode of that season, family patriarch Homer Simpson is led on an adventure from a man he believes is his biological father, Mason Fairbanks.
He takes her out to his ship and tells her about the lost emerald treasure of the sunken ship, "Piso Mojado". Mason and Homer eventually decided to go to the depths of the ocean with individual divers to try to find the treasure. But chaos ensues when the pair split up. Homer gets stranded on a coral reef and he begins to pass out as the oxygen in his tank runs out. The Simpsons' father eventually wakes up three days later in a hospital and survives the ordeal.
Although it is not an accurate prediction of what is happening with the Titan submersible, some fans believe that the story is quite close to real life. "No way did The Simpsons foresee the titanic situation of the Submarine," one person wrote on Twitter. Another person posted videos of the episode on TikTok, showing the uncanny similarities between art and reality.
The popular animated series has often been cited for predicting real-life events years before they happen.
Some of the real-world events predicted by Matt Groening's cartoon include the presidency of Donald Trump, the merger of Disney and Fox, the frenzy over Michelangelo's David statue, and "killer wasps."

Rescuers have expanded the search area for the Oceangate submersible, which was described as "twice the size of Connecticut and the subsurface search is up to 2.5 miles deep," according to U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Jamie Frederick , who updated the media on Wednesday.
"This is a search and rescue mission, 100 percent...We are in the midst of a search and rescue and will continue to use every available asset we have to try to find the Titan and the crew members," he added.
