France striker Kylian Mbappe won the World Cup's Golden Boot after finishing the tournament as the top scorer with 10 goals.
The Frenchman once again emerged as the winner in the individual competition with Lionel Messi, who finished the World Cup with eight goals. The Argentine went into the final against Spain with the chance to equal or surpass Mbappe as the top scorer, but failed to find the net in the decisive match.
Meanwhile, Mbappe began the third-place play-off against England with a chance to consolidate his lead. The Real Madrid forward scored twice, taking his total goals in the tournament to 10, a tally unmatched by any other player.
Thanks to this record, Mbappe secured the "Golden Boot" for the second consecutive World Cup, once again confirming his status as one of the most outstanding strikers in world football.
The rivalry between Mbappe and Messi was reminiscent of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the two competed to the end for the title of top scorer. In that edition, Argentina was declared world champion, Messi won the “Golden Ball” as the best player of the tournament, while Mbappe was awarded the “Golden Boot”.
