"They are criminals, those idiots", Ceferin defends Dinamo Zagreb and

In the fight between the Dinamo Zagreb "Bed Blue Boys" hooligan group and the AEK Athens fans, the fan Mikalis Kacuris was killed and the police finally arrested over 100 Croatian hooligans placed in Greek prisons.
Investigations are still ongoing, indictments have been filed, but the final punishments are not yet known, neither for the individuals nor for the club. Based on the words of the first man of UEFA, it seems that Dinamo will escape without serious consequences.

" Dinamo Zagreb as a club is not involved in the process at all. We made the decision based on the findings of the security services. In the specific case of the tragic event, Dinamo as a club did not even know that this group of fans had traveled to Athens. These are criminals who organized themselves, went to Athens two days before the match and did what they did ," Ceferin said, according to Slovenian media.

Dinamo will most likely pass without a severe punishment the fury of the hooligans.

" Would it really be fair to punish the club and 99.9 percent of innocent fans because of a few idiots who are now in prison? How could the club know that some hooligans and criminals got into a rental van at two in the morning and headed for Greece? Because there are so many of them, they also have political power.

They can influence the outcome of elections, they can participate in protests... As said, when actions are taken, we connect with the states. If one of the countries cannot react adequately, if the protection of the fan groups is too strong, we will be forced to empty the stadium. This may happen soon with some clubs and national teams. And in that case, the remaining 99 percent of fans will have to think about whether they consider it acceptable to be deprived of watching the game at the end. Most people are not racists, Nazis or hooligans. These are just the loudest. In society, evildoers are always the loudest ."

He commented on the departure of Ceferin players to Saudi Arabia.

"I think this story with Saudi Arabia will last relatively little. I have already said it several times, that in my opinion this is a wrong approach to the development of football. By bringing footballers who have practically finished their careers in Europe, you are not developing the sport. China did the same a few years ago, but its national team failed to qualify for the World Cup," said the Slovenian, who on Saturday celebrated his seventh anniversary in charge of UEFA.
