An Albanian action movie actor wanted in Belgium for human trafficking, risking up to 20 years in prison, is still in Great Britain.
Sebastjan Kallabak's extradition was approved by a judge in August 2021 and signed by then Home Secretary Priti Patel. But he ended up in Britain after appealing the decision.
According to the Sunday Express, the 37-year-old made an application for bail at Westminster Magistrates' Court on July 19, due to the ban pending the legal battle. However, the request to leave the detention was rejected and the case was postponed until the end of the appeal.
The court heard that Kallabaku left Albania in 2017 for "political issues" and spent time in Belgium. However, he did not seek asylum until he arrived in the UK.
Belgian authorities say he is part of a people-smuggling ring and steered a boat overcrowded with 30 Albanians from the Dutch coast to Great Britain in 2019.
Kallabaku denies the accusations and says that he has created a family life in Great Britain. It is not clear when his appeal against extradition or asylum will be finalized.
Under the 2003 extradition law, once the appeal process is over, a person must leave within 10 days. But from July 17, 10 more extensions of deadlines were approved.
