12 years after his horrific skiing accident, Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher is no longer bedridden.
Very little is known about the 57-year-old's recovery from the head injury he suffered while on holiday in the French Alps in 2013. Now sources have told a newspaper that the seven-time world champion could sit in a wheelchair, The Sun reports.
His wife, Corinna, and doctors still care for him 24 hours a day.
But his progress means he can now wheel himself around his home in Majorca and near Lake Geneva.
Schumacher has not been seen in public since the accident, with speculation that he could only communicate by blinking his eyes. But sources claim that this is not true.
One of them said: “He understands some of the things that are happening around him, but maybe not all of them.”
There were rumors that he would appear at the wedding of his daughter, Gina-Maria, in 2024, but these turned out to be untrue.
Last year, three former family employees were convicted after threatening to publish hundreds of photos of him in his current state. A few weeks ago, his daughter shared a rare photo of the entire family before the accident, on Schumacher's birthday, where the family is seen smiling, with the caption: "The best forever. Happy birthday, Dad."
