Meghan Markle has taken a dig at the royal family, declaring that she "couldn't be herself in the United Kingdom."
While giving an interview to Bloomberg Originals, the Duchess of Sussex spoke openly about the period when she felt "inauthentic."
The mother-of-two, who lives in a luxury £12 million villa in Montecito and learns French on Duolingo in the evenings, was asked if she finds it difficult to appear "close" to the public.
"I don't have a problem with it, I'm just being myself. I think it was different a few years ago, when I couldn't be so loud and I had to wear skin-colored socks all the time. To be honest, that's not my style at all. I haven't seen socks like that since the '80s movies, when they came in those little plastic eggs. I know it's a simple example, but it's indicative of what it means to be comfortable with yourself, to dress how you want, to tell the truth and to show up in spaces where you can be truly authentic," Meghan said.
Among other things, she has shown that she no longer feels the need to prove anything to anyone.
"I think our character, what we are at our core, doesn't change. But the behaviors, habits, and roles we take on in life can bring out the best or the worst in people. I'm just me," she concluded.
