Jasveen Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen," has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for drug distribution that led to the death of actor Matthew Perry.
The 42-year-old pleaded guilty to five charges, including distribution of ketamine with fatal consequences. Prosecutors say she ran a well-organized network from her home, generating a large income and a luxurious lifestyle.
Perry, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the sitcom Friends, was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment in October 2023. Investigations confirmed that the cause was the use of ketamine, a substance that is used in medicine only under strict control.
During the trial, the actor's stepmother demanded the maximum sentence for Sangha, accusing him of exploiting his vulnerability to addiction.
Authorities discovered large quantities of drugs in her apartment, including ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine and Xanax. She had been supplying clients since 2019, and admitted to another case of selling drugs that ended in a fatal overdose.
Sangha was part of a five-person network that allegedly supplied drugs to Perry. Doctors and associates of his were also implicated in the case, and they received various sentences.
Salvador Plasencia was sentenced to 30 months in prison, while Mark Chavez received house arrest and supervision. Meanwhile, the actor's assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, and Eric Fleming are expected to be sentenced at a later date.
The case has brought to light the dangers of substance abuse and how addiction can be exploited by illicit networks, even in the case of well-known public figures.
