American singer Akon's wife, Tomeka Thaim, has filed for divorce, just four days before their 29th wedding anniversary. According to American media, Tomeka filed the documents on Thursday, September 11, citing irreconcilable differences. The official date of the separation will be determined later.
Tomeka has requested joint legal custody of their 17-year-old daughter, Journey, and asked to receive physical custody, allowing Akon to have visitation rights.
Tomeka was the only woman he was officially married to.
Akon, known for his belief in polygamy, has nine children and has stressed that he is always committed to his parental responsibilities. In a 2022 interview on “The Zeze Mills Show,” the star said, “My job is not to do all these extra things and these parties and concerts. While I take care of my responsibility to provide for my family and food, if I have time to do it and show love, yes, I will. Communication allows me to be there every day.”
