The luxury restaurant of the famous Turkish chef, Nusret Gökçe, known worldwide as Salt Bae, has recorded a loss of 5.5 million pounds (about 6.38 million euros) during 2024, despite its great popularity and visits from well-known names such as Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.
While its main London restaurant has generated revenue of over £10m, the huge loss comes as a result of the company's revaluation of its US assets, leading to a write-down of around £6m. The US branch is wholly owned by Salt Bae's UK company, which has had a direct impact on the group's balance sheet.
At the height of its expansion, the Nusr-Et chain had seven restaurants in the U.S., but many of them have since closed, including locations in Beverly Hills, Las Vegas and New York. Currently, only two locations remain in the U.S., as the company has shifted its focus to other international markets, such as Mexico City and Ibiza.
Despite the losses, Salt Bae still holds a considerable personal fortune of around 50 million euros, while the restaurant still offers staggering prices, such as the "Giant Tomahawk" steak worth 630 pounds, or Wagyu meat priced at 1.15 euros per gram.
However, despite its fame and VIP clientele, the restaurant is only rated 2.9 out of 5 stars on TripAdvisor, demonstrating a gap between its luxurious image and the actual customer experience.
