Today she is one of the most highly regarded Albanian sopranos in the world, but the beginning of her career seems not to have been easy at all for Ermonela Jahon, especially during her studies at the Rome Conservatory.
She explained that, in her early days in Italy, she was forced to seek help from teachers who knew her in Mantua, offering to work as a babysitter and waitress to make ends meet:
"It was very difficult, especially after I lost my documents during the process of exchanging them. At one point, I even went without eating for a week, as the family I was staying with was having problems with the divorce," said Jaho.
The difficulties did not end there. After winning the competition to continue his studies at the “Santa Cecilia” conservatory in Rome, he needed a certificate from the Albanian embassy due to his visa expiring. But the embassy refused this document and asked him to return to Albania.
"I went crying to the conservatory's secretary, begging the director to let me continue my dream. He saw me and said: 'I would like my child to have your passion too.' And he decided to accept me without documents," the artist confessed with emotion on the show "Log."
Today, the Albanian soprano is known on the world's largest opera stages, but she does not forget her gratitude to those who helped her in her early days: "That director has passed away, but I always remember him with gratitude," said Jaho.
