Valentine's Day is associated with a third-century AD figure known as Saint Valentine. Historians mention more than one person by that name, martyred during the persecutions of Christians in the Roman Empire, making the exact historical identity unclear.

One of the most popular stories is that he helped and cured a guard’s daughter of blindness while he was imprisoned, and when he was executed on February 14, he left her a final letter, signed “from your Valentine.” However, many historians say that the exact historical details about Valentine are unclear, and there was more than one person named Valentine who died for his faith during that period.

Researchers emphasize that these details remain part of tradition and are not fully supported by verified sources.

Some theories link this holiday to Lupercalia, a Roman rite held in mid-February, associated with fertility and rebirth. However, modern research has not found direct evidence linking this pagan holiday to February 14.

The connection between this date and love appears in the Middle Ages. The English poet Geoffrey Chaucer, in the 14th century, mentions Valentine's Day as the day when birds choose their partners, placing the date in a romantic context. Subsequently, the custom of exchanging love letters and poems spread throughout Europe.

From the 15th century onwards, postcards with romantic messages began to circulate. In the 19th and 20th centuries, symbolic gifts such as flowers and chocolates were added to the tradition.

Today, February 14th, marks a day dedicated to the expression of feelings, widespread in many countries around the world.
