Astronomer CEO Andy Byron has reacted for the first time after being caught on camera hugging a woman who was not his wife during a Coldplay concert in Massachusetts, and in his statement, he also blamed the band for the situation.
At one point during the concert, Coldplay singer Chris Martin spotted the couple on the stage's giant screen, hugging and dancing to the music.
After seeing that they were being broadcast live, the two quickly fled and tried to avoid the cameras.
Chris Martin humorously commented: "Look at these two. They're either having an extramarital affair, or they're just really shy" - a comment that, according to online followers, may have been more accurate than the singer himself predicted.
After the video spread on social media, Byron issued a public statement:
"I want to publicly acknowledge this moment that is circulating online and the disappointment it has caused. What was supposed to be an evening of music and joy turned into a personal mistake that became public on a very large stage. I want to sincerely apologize to my wife, my family, and the team at Astronomer. You deserve better from me, as a partner, as a parent, and as a leader."
He added that he is stepping down for a period of reflection and requested privacy:
"I am taking the time to reflect, take responsibility, and decide on my next steps, both in my personal and professional life."
Byron also criticized the way the moment was made public:
"I find it very disturbing that a private moment was made public without my consent. I have respect for artists, but I hope we all reflect on the impact it has when someone else's life becomes a public spectacle."
Reactions on social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), have been fierce. Many users criticized the fact that Byron blamed Coldplay for his behavior.
