Rapper Labinot Gashi, internationally known simply as Gashi, has spoken more about his Albanian origins in a recent interview. He was born in Tripoli, Libya, and his family lived in 24 different countries around the world before settling in Brooklyn when he was 11 years old. He confirmed that he was born in Tripoli, but emphasized that his parents are from Kosovo.
Telling more about his childhood, Gashi said that his family had great economic problems and he was even forced to collect food.
“I hated going home. It was the worst thing. I gardened from Monday to Thursday. I also worked in gardens in six other buildings. My father and I worked six jobs each," he said. "All the people laughed at me, but I was him."
