For the first time in history, on March 26 in Warsaw, Albania will play against Poland in the World Cup play-offs. A challenge that could bring closer the big dream of the red and black fans, to be in a World Cup for the first time, which will take place from June 11 to July 19 in the USA-Canada and Mexico.
Former national team striker Agustin Kola told "Report TV" that the pressure the Poles have on their field is in favor of Albania.
" Beating Poland is not a shame because Poland is Poland, but the problem for them is that they will have greater psychological pressure. It's like having 10 kilograms on your back and running. Even if we beat them, we don't have to criticize the national team and fall on their necks ," said the former footballer.
Kola does not see the lack of minutes of the red and black footballers with the teams they play as a problem.
" They have the minutes because they are playing in foreign championships. They are not playing in the Albanian championship where they train for an hour and 30 minutes. That's what the cooperatives used to do in our time. These play in their own teams with these great players. We couldn't sleep at night because we were going to play with Rummenigge. These guys have teammates. They play with the best players in the world ," Kola declared.
The first positive result for Albania on Polish soil came in 1984 when the Rossoneri drew 2-2 thanks to a goal and an assist from Agustin Kola. At the time, the former striker scored against one of the strongest national teams, as Poland was coming off a World Cup where they had finished 3rd thanks to Boniek's great performances.
" It's everyone's stamp because football is not played alone. It was everyone's stamp even though I was a striker ," said the former national team player.
In case of defeat against Poland, the March matches will most likely be coach Silvinjo's last in charge of the Albanian national team.
" These foreign coaches are professionals. No, they are not our coaches, but they interfere a lot. I was and am a coach myself. They interfere a lot. Even when foreigners interfere, they know how to communicate. They put in what they deserve because they will honor themselves ," Kola declared.
If they qualify against Poland, on March 31st the national team will play the final play-off with the winner of the Ukraine-Sweden pair, while if they lose they will play for 3rd and 4th place with the loser of the same pair.
