The President of the Albanian Football Federation, Armand Duka, has spoken again about the Albania-Serbia organization of the European Championship, "EURO 2027, for U-21", describing it as an event for sporting purposes only. The tournament has attracted a lot of criticism due to the history between the two countries, but Duka wanted to extinguish them.
" In May 2025, we will host the finals of the U-17 European Championship. It is the first European Championship that we are hosting, we have not organized a final tournament before. The draw will be made on March 31 and it will start on May 19. I am convinced that it will be a successful organization ," Duka said initially.
" In 2027 we will host the finals of the U-21 European Championship. It has been a matter of discussion, we are attentive to the criticisms and remarks, the insults of the fans about why we have collaborated with the Serbian Federation for the championship.
We are a sports organization and this is a sports event. The main goal is sports. Undoubtedly also pragmatic because this was a chance to be used to have a European championship because I doubt the history of Albania will be repeated and I hope it will be repeated again.
Even from a political perspective, I have undoubtedly not only experienced what every Kosovar has experienced (not in the same way because I have not been physically in Kosovo), but we have all supported and tried to ease the pain of the Albanians of Kosovo.
I know the history, but the message is that we have to look forward. We will not change Serbia, we will not move Serbia from its place. It will stay there, Kosovo will stay there.
Despite the pain, we must find a way and we must find bridges of communication. Whether or not this will have a positive impact, I believe it will. And if this serves to improve the lives of children in Kosovo, I will be satisfied. It will hurt some because the wounds are fresh, but we must look forward, "concluded Duka on the issue of organizing the European Championship, "EURO 2027" for U-21.
