Benfica coach Jose Mourinho has dismissed reports of interest from Real Madrid to take over as manager for the 2026-2027 season. Speaking at a press conference ahead of the club's next match against Famalicao, the Portuguese coach insisted that there has been no contact from the Spanish club.
" No, nobody from Real Madrid has spoken to me, I can assure you. I've been in football for many years and I'm used to these things, but nothing from Real Madrid ," Mourinho told Portuguese media.
He declined to comment further on the speculation, stressing that his focus remains on the current team and contractual obligations.
" I can't say anything else. As for Benfica, you already know the situation. I have one year left on my contract with Benfica, and that's it ," he added.
Mourinho is currently under contract with Benfica for another season, which makes any potential future moves uncertain. Rumors of interest from Real Madrid have circulated in the media, but so far there has been no official confirmation from either party.
The coach's statements come on the eve of the challenge with Famalicao, an important match for Benfica's objectives in the championship.
