Russia and Belarus will not receive an official invitation to the 2024 Paris Olympics, where more than 200 national teams are invited in a traditional ceremony, according to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
It is an IOC tradition exactly one year before the opening of the Summer or Winter Games to invite all the national teams around the world to this sporting event.
Despite the protocol move, some Russian and Belarusian athletes may still compete in Paris, despite their countries' involvement in the war on Ukraine.
This can only happen if athletes register and compete as neutrals and without representing their respective national symbols.
The IOC said today that 203 National Olympic Committees will be sent invitations to Paris, while Russia and Belarus will be excluded ," the Olympic body said in a statement.
