Barcelona denied penalty against Atletico Madrid? Regulations clarify the case

Barcelona's elimination from the Champions League after the match against Atletico Madrid has caused strong reactions and controversy, with the main focus shifting from the result to refereeing decisions and VAR interventions.

In the return match held at the Metropolitano Stadium, Barcelona managed to win 1-2. However, this victory was not enough to overturn the 0-2 defeat in the first leg, causing the Catalan team to be eliminated with an aggregate score of 3-2.

Regardless of the final result, the main attention has focused on several controversial episodes that, according to analysis and reactions, have influenced the course of the two matches.

One of the most controversial moments involved a collision between Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Juan Musso and Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez. In this action, Lopez jumped to kick the ball and, as he fell, collided with the goalkeeper's heel.

Barcelona players called for a penalty, but the referee decided not to award a penalty. According to his interpretation, the goalkeeper's foot was not in a dangerous or unnatural position.

The specialized website "Archivo VAR", which analyzes referee decisions, considered the decision of referee Klement Tërpin to be correct. According to this analysis, the intervention did not meet the criteria for a penalty.

" Is the interference between Muso and Fermin punishable? No. Fermin hits the ball with a dive and during the fall collides with the goalkeeper's heel, which was not in an unnatural position. It is a normal moment of play, so VAR did not intervene ," the explanation says.
