Erling Haaland will miss most of the latter part of the season due to injury and today's tests.
Haaland is expected to be recovered in time to play a further part in the latter stages of the season, also in the Club World Cup.
After initial tests today, Erling will seek specialist advice to understand when he can return… but it could take more than a month.
"Manchester City FC can confirm that Erling Haaland has suffered an injury to his left ankle.
The Norwegian striker suffered the injury during Sunday's FA Cup quarter-final away win over AFC Bournemouth.
Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist advice to confirm the full extent of the injury.
The assessment remains ongoing to determine a full prognosis. It is expected that Erling will be fit in time to play a further role in the remainder of this season, including this summer's FIFA Club World Cup.
"Everyone at the Club wishes Erling a speedy recovery and Manchester City will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation," the club said in a statement.
