Lionel Messi has no intention of ending his football career after the World Cup. The Argentina captain has announced that he will continue playing as long as he feels able to contribute to the team and maintain his physical fitness.
After Argentina's recent victory over Austria, Messi was asked by reporters if he plans to continue his career in the coming years.
Do you intend to continue playing for a few more years?, was the journalist's question.
" Yes, yes... I will continue for a while, as long as I can contribute, feel good physically and help my teammates. I will continue playing ," Messi replied.
Further, the journalist asked him directly if he sees himself as part of the 2030 World Cup.
" I don't know. The truth is, I'm not thinking about it right now. It seems a little far away, but, like I said, I'm living one day at a time and focusing on the present ," the 39-year-old declared.
Messi's statements imply that the winner of eight "Ballon d'Or" is not yet thinking about the end of his career, preferring to focus on current challenges and evaluate his future in football step by step.
