After the Europa League was won by Aston Villa, the Conference League is also English-speaking. Crystal Palace defeated Ivan Balliu's Rayo Vallecano with the minimum score of 1-0 and won a European trophy for the first time in history and will participate in the Europa League next season.
The English team started the match better, exerting pressure in the first minutes, but as time passed, Rayo Vallecano managed to balance the game and create the first dangerous chances.
In the 25th minute, Alemao came close to scoring for the Spaniards after a cross from De Fruto, but his volleyed shot ended up just wide of the post. Rayo risked another chance in the 39th minute with Unai Lopez, but his effort went wide of the Crystal Palace goal.
Shortly before the end of the first half, the Londoners came close to taking the lead with Mitchell, who was served correctly by Wharton, but his header went wide. The first half ended in a goalless draw.
At the start of the second half, Crystal Palace immediately created another chance with Mateta, but defender Lejeun intervened at the crucial moment by clearing the ball.
The final goal came in the 51st minute. After a shot by Wharton, goalkeeper Batala punched the ball away, but Mateta took advantage of the rebound and sent it into the net, giving the team led by Oliver Glasner the lead.
After the goal, Crystal Palace took control of the game and sought to double the score. One of the most spectacular moments came after a free kick by Jérôme Pinot, where the ball touched the post twice. In the continuation of the action, Ratiu came close to an own goal, as his attempt to clear the ball ended up on the crossbar.
Just seconds later, goalkeeper Batala kept Rayo Vallecano in the game by stopping another clear chance from Mateta. The Spanish team also had its chances in the remaining minutes, especially with Ratiu, but without managing to find the equalizer.
With this success, Crystal Palace become the second English team to win a European trophy this season, after Aston Villa's triumph in the Europa League. The Londoners are also the third English team to win the Conference League after West Ham in 2023 and Chelsea in 2025.
