The FA has launched disciplinary proceedings against West Ham's Brazilian player Lukas Paketa, questioning a possible transfer to Manchester City in the summer.
The Brazilian, who had excelled at the English club after a not-so-happy experience at Milan, is suspected of breaching betting regulations, especially regarding some yellow cards he received during 2022 and 2023. There have been moves by strange betting coefficients and sums that have been placed for the punishment of Paketa during specific matches and in four cases, the placement of these sums has also been identified in his hometown, on the island of Paketa on the coast of Rio De Janeiro.
He reacted today through a post on social networks, denying any possible accusations that have been brought against him.
" I am extremely surprised and upset that the English FA has decided to open disciplinary proceedings against me. For nine months I have cooperated every step of the way with their investigation and made all information available to them. I reject every accusation and will fight to clear my name ," Paketa wrote in his post.
Manchester City have been eyeing Paketa as a possible replacement for Bernardo Silva if he leaves in the summer, but with the case already open against the Brazilian, it seems unlikely that Pep Guardiola will give the green light for the player.
