The inaugural meeting of the Peace Board was held in Washington, D.C., with the participation of the founding member states and FIFA representatives. FIFA President Gianni Infantino was also present, and he delivered a speech during the first meeting of the board.
In his speech, Infantino announced the formalization of a partnership between FIFA and the Peace Board, emphasizing the role of sport as a means of unification and promotion of peace.
" Football is the universal language of the world. President Trump will unite the world here in the summer ," Infantino said, referring to the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States of America, along with Canada and Mexico.
He added that, in addition to rebuilding infrastructure in areas affected by the conflict, it is also necessary to rebuild hope and trust among citizens.
" We must not only rebuild homes, schools and hospitals, but we must also rebuild hope and faith in people. This is what football represents ," the FIFA head declared.
For his part, US President Donald Trump expressed gratitude for FIFA's commitment to supporting peace in Gaza. According to him, the world's top football organization will contribute a budget of $75 million to projects related to peace and reconstruction.
Trump also stated that so far about $2 billion has been raised to support Gaza and that the goal is to raise $10 billion through the Peace Board to invest in war-torn areas.
He also mentioned the involvement of well-known football figures in possible initiatives for Gaza, noting that he has held meetings with well-known international players.
" We have very good relations with Europe, Norway agreed to the Peace Board. I remembered that they were going to give me the Nobel Prize. But I don't care about it, I'm doing my best to save lives."
So far, $2 billion has been raised to support Gaza. FIFA will also help support peace in Gaza with a budget of $75 million. We aim to raise $10 billion for the “Peace Board.” We will contribute $10 billion to an area that has been devastated by war.
"I mean FIFA should raise billions of dollars for projects in Gaza, big football stars, I met one of the big football players, Cristiano Ronaldo. We're going to bring football players to Gaza. Gianni has joined us too. He's very smart. Thank you Gianni ," Trump said.
