The Lazio Regional Administrative Court has upheld the punitive measure against three Serie A clubs, Roma, Napoli and Fiorentina, confirming the ban on the presence of their fans at away matches until the end of the season.
The request submitted by the clubs to repeal the measure was not accepted by the court, making the decision final at this stage.
According to the authorities, the punitive measure came as a result of incidents that occurred on January 18 and 25 of this year.
In the first case, a group of Fiorentina fans, who were traveling to Bologna for an away match, were involved in a clash with Roma fans who were heading to Turin. The clash between the two groups led to the intervention of the police.
Just a week later, more incidents were reported, this time between Napoli and Lazio fans. According to reports, the Napoli supporters were travelling to Turin, while the Lazio fans were returning from a transfer to Lecce, when the clash occurred.
The decision is a significant blow to three top clubs in Italian football's top flight. Until the end of the season, they will have to play away matches without their fans in their stadiums.
Authorities have deemed the measure necessary to ensure public safety and prevent similar incidents in the future. It is not yet known whether the clubs will pursue other legal avenues to challenge the decision.
