FIFA opens second phase of ticket sales, over 1 million tickets for 2026 World

FIFA has launched the second phase of World Cup ticket sales, putting an additional one million tickets on sale. The new phase of sales, which runs until Friday (October 31), is set to begin on Friday.

This phase includes a time slot with exclusivity for domestic fans, meaning residents of the three host countries of the 2026 World Cup, the United States, Mexico and Canada. The domestic exclusivity deadline ends today, with more fans being able to apply from November 17.

" We have already seen great interest from around the world for this tournament, and especially from within the host countries, as Canada, Mexico and the United States prepare to host the FIFA World Cup ," said Heimo Shirgi, the tournament's operating director.

This second phase, with the host country's exclusive time slot, will allow us to say 'thank you' to these local fans, while also providing global opportunities .”

The first phase of sales, a preliminary Visa draw for eligible Visa cardholders, attracted interest from around the world with more than 4.5 million applicants. However, residents of host countries bought more tickets than any other nation. FIFA has been heavily criticised for setting exorbitant ticket prices and implementing dynamic ticketing, a strategy where prices vary based on demand. The model has previously been tested at the Club World Cup and means ticket prices can increase as sales progress.

World Cup ticket prices range from $60 for the group stages to $6,730 for the final, but the first round of sales revealed that the inventory of category four tickets for the group stages at $60 is very limited. Furthermore, RTB (right to buy ticket) holders were forced to buy mostly category one and two tickets. FIFA expects to sell more than 6.5 million tickets for the tournament and generate $3 billion from ticket sales, with the 2026 World Cup set to be the largest to date, with 48 finalists.
