Galatasaray won by a minimum score of 1-0 against Liverpool in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16, held at the Rams Park stadium in Istanbul.
The Turkish team took the lead very quickly, in the 7th minute of the match. After a corner kick executed by Gabriel Sara, Victor Osimhen headed the ball and the ball was then deflected by Mario Lemina, who sent it into the net for 1-0.
After the early goal, the pace of the game slowed down and the first half produced no dangerous chances for either team. The first 45 minutes ended with the home team's minimal advantage.
In the second half, Gallatasaraji managed to score again in the 62nd minute through Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian striker's goal was disallowed for offside.
Liverpool also found the net in the 70th minute. After a corner kick and a scramble in the area, Ibrahima Konate sent the ball into the net. However, the French defender's goal was disallowed after a handball check.
The score remained unchanged until the end of the match, with Galatasaray securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg. However, qualification for the next stage will be decided a week later in the return leg to be played at Anfield Road in England.
