Italian football is experiencing a decisive acceleration in the race for the UEFA rankings, at a time when the 2025 European cup year is almost over.
Thanks to a very positive week, with five wins in seven matches, Italy has managed to surpass the Spanish La Liga in the seasonal coefficient, returning the Bundesliga to the main objective.
The goal is clear: securing one of the two additional places that send the fifth-placed team to the Champions League.
The last round of the cup competitions proved to be quite favorable for the Italian teams. Although Inter lost on penalties to Liverpool and Napoli were defeated in Lisbon by Benfica, the rest of the Italian teams gave convincing answers.
In the Champions League, Atalanta and Juventus secured important points in the new phase with a unique group. In the Europa League, Roma and Bologna recorded important victories, while in the Conference League Fiorentina returned to success. These five victories have directly influenced Italy's climb in the rankings.
According to the latest update, Italy has reached the quota of 11,071 points, leaving Spain behind with 10,609 points. The Spanish league is suffering from disappointing results of some of the main teams, including Real Madrid and Villarreal.
At the top is the English Premier League, which seems unattainable, while the real battle takes place for second place with Germany, which currently has 11,660 points.
The competition is not over yet for this calendar year. Next week, with the final group stage matches in the Conference League, offers another opportunity to close the gap on the Bundesliga before the winter break. The chances of Serie A securing a fifth Champions League spot remain as bright as ever.
