The president of Ankaragucu, Faruk Koca, has resigned after punching the referee Halil Umut Meler at the end of the match with Rizespor.
Faruk Koca, who has already been arrested, said he was saddened by what he had done. As Meler lay on the ground, he was also kicked in the head at least once.
Koca announced his resignation through a statement on the club's website.
“Nothing can legitimize or explain the violence that I have committed”, says his reaction.
“Sports fields should be the place of gentlemen's competition. Any stance that casts a shadow over fair play, including mine, should not be present in stadiums".
Meler was hospitalized with a minor fracture near his eye.
