The German coach thanked the team and fans after the triumph over Real Madrid, just hours after losing his father
Barcelona secured the La Liga championship title after a 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in El Clásico, in a historic evening for the Catalan club and coach Hansi Flick.
At the Camp Nou, the fans chanted the German coach's name repeatedly, while the Barcelona players celebrated enthusiastically the success that mathematically sealed the championship title. It was the first time that Barcelona had secured the title in a direct confrontation with Real Madrid. Previously, only the Madrid team had achieved such a success, in 1932.
The victory was achieved thanks to goals from Marcus Rashford in the 9th minute and Ferran Torres in the 18th. Barcelona leads with 91 points and, even though there are still three weeks of the championship, can no longer be caught by their rivals. Real Madrid remains in second place with 77 points.
For Hansi Flick, the triumph also had a strong emotional dimension. Just hours before the match, Barcelona announced that the coach had lost his father.
"It's been a difficult day for me. My father has passed away," Flick said after the match, adding, "My team is fantastic, I love this group. It's like a family. Today they gave everything and I'm really proud."
The coach also thanked the fans for their support: "it's extraordinary to win the title in this stadium and in an El Clásico against Real Madrid."
The Catalan club also published a message of condolence on the X network: "FC Barcelona and the entire Blaugrana family express their condolences to Hansi Flick on the passing of his father. We share the pain with you and your family at this difficult moment."
Before the start of the match, both teams took to the field with mourning bands on their arms, while a minute of silence was held in the stadium in honor of the German coach's father.
This is the 29th league title in Barcelona's history and the fourth in Flick's career in domestic leagues. He previously won the Bundesliga with Bayern Munich in 2020 and 2021, and has now led Barcelona to two consecutive titles in Spain.
